Craft beer taps, growler station open at Town & Country Shell
Now, you can fill up twice when you roll into the Town & Country Shell Station: Once for your car, and once for your growler.
The independently owned Shell gas station at 3960 Far Hills Ave. opened a growler-filling station on Dec. 11, with 13 taps for local, regional and national craft brews, said store manager Drew Ackley on Wednesday.
"We already have a good craft selection, and try to keep it as local as possible (for carryout)," he said. They currently have Warped Wing Ermal's Belgian Cream Ale on tap, and plan to add Yellow Springs Brewery and possibly Dayton Beer Company selections in the near future. They already have area favorites like Cincinnati's Rhinegeist and Mad Tree, and Athens' based Jackie O's running. Prices range between $6- $9 for a 32 oz. fill and $10-$16 for a 64-oz. fill.
Ackley said they even invested a bit more to provide a state-of-the-art pressure filler: The Pegas Pressure Filler removes oxygen from the growler, which allows for a much longer shelf life — about 30-45 days— than a traditional fill up from the tap. Even though the taps have been open less than a week, he said the station has already seen plenty of enthusiasm from patrons and at least 20 growlers have been sold.
That growler of Ermal's will go perfectly with some Buffalo wings from the T&C Shell Station's Krispy Krunchy Chicken, that's for sure.
The tap list will change seasonally, and patrons are encouraged to put in requests for their favorite brews. Check for what's currently on tap via their website. As always, fill your growler responsibly.
